Question 1

Is Firedown free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Firedown is completely free. No account, no subscription, no ads.

Question 2

Can I download YouTube videos with Firedown?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Tap the Fire-Button on any YouTube page to save video up to 4K, or extract the audio to play in the background with the screen off.

Question 3

Which sites does Firedown support?

Accepted Answer

YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, Facebook, X (Twitter), Reddit, Kick, Rumble, Vimeo and Dailymotion, plus direct file hosts like Mega. Firedown can download from virtually any website; if it isn't DRM-protected, it can save it.

Question 4

Is Firedown on the Google Play Store?

Accepted Answer

No. Firedown installs from Zapstore, F-Droid, a direct APK or Obtainium, all signed by us. See the install page for the channel that fits you.

Question 5

Which devices are supported?

Accepted Answer

Android phones. Firedown is built and tested for Android smartphones.

Question 6

Is it safe to install?

Accepted Answer

Every build is signed with the same key across all channels, and Firedown has no analytics, no tracking and no advertising IDs; the only thing it sends on its own is an update check that counts active installs with a token that changes every month. You can verify any release's SHA-256 against our GitHub releases.

Question 7

Can anyone read my synced bookmarks?

Accepted Answer

No. Bookmark sync is end-to-end encrypted: your bookmarks are encrypted on your phone before they are uploaded, so our server only stores ciphertext it cannot read: never your titles, URLs or contents. Sync is optional and off by default, and needs no account, email or phone number. The encrypted backup for downloaded files works the same zero-knowledge way.

Question 8

What happens if I lose my recovery code?

Accepted Answer

Your recovery code is generated on your device and is the only key to your encrypted data. We never see it and cannot reset it. If you lose it, no one (including us) can decrypt your synced bookmarks, and they are gone for good. Keep your recovery code somewhere safe.
